Innovative polymer and solid electrolytes affect the mechanism of the electrochemical reaction of intercalation & de-intercalation of Li-ions in FeS2 electrode, and provide good cyclability of the FeS2 cathode even at ambient temperature. Iron-disulfide is an inexpensive and non-toxic material with high tap density, which provides high volumetric energy of Li-FeS2 cells. Li-FeS2 secondary cell has a low self-discharge, which is an important additional benefit as compared with Li secondary cells, which use other cathode materials based on sulfur components. Enerize has developed Li-FeS2 secondary system in cooperation with Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology, Research Laboratory of Chemical Power Sources.

Innovative Solid Inorganic Electrolyte, Binder Free Silicone/Graphite Anode: Breakthrough in Li-Ion Batteries Energy Increase, Safety Improvement, and Cost Reduction
Date: 2:30 PM, Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Novel vitreous high ionic conductivity solid inorganic electrolyte, which is stable up to 300°C, enables new design of lithium batteries, including micro- & macro-batteries, with safe charge/cycling, wide operating temperature range, and flexible formats. Enerize's solid electrolyte has high level of chemical stability in contact with electrode materials, and electrochemical stability in a wide range of working potentials (up to 5.0 Volts). High energy silicon - graphite composite anodes are fabricated via a proprietary method of gas detonation deposition, do not require a polymer binder because the method of anode fabricate ensures the high level of the adhesion between composition and current collector, and cohesion between the particles of silicon and graphite. As a result, anode has high level stability during cycling.

During the presentation Dr. Shembel will discuss: a) correlation between composition, structure and electrochemical properties of electrolyte and electrodes, and properties of Li-ion batteries, b) production methods and equipment for high rate deposition of thin layers of electrode materials and solid electrolytes with predetermined structural, morphological, and electrochemical properties. Synergetic effect of new materials, technologies and equipment for thin film deposition reduces costs, increases productivity of battery fabrication, and provides reliability and high performance of batteries. Areas of applications for Li-ion batteries with solid inorganic electrolyte include: oil & gas drilling companies, hot environments and/or high loads, e.g. vehicle running uphill, military, power tools, deep mining, aerospace, petrochemicals.

16-18 April 2013, Maritim Hotel, Cologne, Germany International industry conference on polymer components in photovoltaic systems
Organised by Applied Market Information Ltd. (AMI)

Polymers in Photovoltaics 2013 examines a wide range of topics on module manufacturing including the markets, materials, manufacturing equipment, innovative technology and certification worldwide. It provides a unique networking and sourcing opportunity for module manufacturers, solar power companies and suppliers to the industry.

The use of polymers in photovoltaics is continuing to expand as new entrants to the marketplace offer a new range of plastics and elastomeric material combinations for functions such as back sheet and encapsulant, adhesives and sealants, and front sheets. There are also completely revolutionary developments such as photovoltaics built-in to textiles for portable power, such as charging of batteries for military devices. The flexible PV options are also growing as the use of solar energy expands to new areas. Green energy supplies are bountiful and still much underutilised across Europe. There have been boom and bust cycles as this relatively new industry has built up to being a very significant power source. The state of the market will be reviewed at Polymers in Photovoltaics 2013, which provides a unique networking opportunity for module and other solar power appliance manufacturers to meet and examine the latest components, their testing and durability, alongside the critical factor of cost-effectiveness in the production process

Dr. Elena Shembel, President & CEO of Enerize Corporation will present company's achievements in nanostructured transparent polymer technology for encapsulation of different types of photovoltaic modules (including silicon based, flexible non silicon based, and organic and DSSC modules), organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), and other optical devices:

Nanostructured Transparent Polymer for Encapsulation of PV Modules and Optical Devices. Composition and Properties of Polymer Material. Test Results of PV Modules and Optical Devices

Enerize novel materials and technology is a breakthrough based on the patent pending nanostructured transparent polymer, which is flexible, durable, has high level of adhesion for various materials, provides high level of hermetic sealing (waterproof) and UV protection, and contains nanostructured clusters with sizes from 20 to 100 nanometers, and micro-domains from 15 to 120 microns. Such composition of nanostructured clusters and micro-domains, located in a certain order in the volume of the polymer, results in micro lensing which increases the concentration of light reaching the semiconductor layer. This novel nanostructured transparent polymer dramatically improves the performance of PV modules encapsulated with one layer of Enerize nanostructured transparent polymer as compared with PV modules laminated with glass or encapsulated with multilayer structure of other polymers.

Enerize single film nanostructured transparent polymer materials are coated directly on the surface of solar cells or modules, and do not need any additional lamination with glass or polymer layers to deliver durable encapsulation. This allows simplify the process of PV modules production and reduce their cost. Enerize has 3 patent applications in the area of nanostructured transparent polymer for encapsulation of PV modules and optical devices
